To know Buddy is an understatement!!

Born Melvin Joseph Barry on September 12, 1917 in Washington, Missouri he was the eleventh of twelve children that Charles and Belle Barry had. His parents and his 11 siblings' proceeded in death.

His family relocated to St. Charles, Missouri where he attended the St. Charles public schools. While growing up in St. Charles he met Madge Mae Miller. On May 7, 1941 the two were united in holy matrimony. Buddy always proclaimed that he "paid 2.50 for his wife" which bother the heck out Madge. After 65 years of marriage he said farewell to his bride. To this union their daughter Dorothy Jean was born.

On March 22, 1943 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in World War II station in Burma India. While in the military he earned the position of Staff Sergeant. He also received the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with 1 bronze star, 2 Overseas Bars, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Ribbon. January 16, 1946 orders came indicating that the war was over, the military inquired as to if he wanted to re-enlist in only a Buddy style he told his commander "Man get my papers so I can go home" needless to say he returned home on March 30th, 1946 with an honorable discharge.

Upon returning home he worked at Lindenwood College as a Cook and even took culinary classes. He later moved to St. Louis, Missouri where he worked for National Sanitary Products as Truck Driver until he retired in 1984. Buddy loved his yard and after retiring he became the neighborhood landscaper maintaining lawns for the Cottage residents.

Later in life Buddy accepted Christ and was baptized at New Tower Grove MB Church by the late Henry Smith, Jr. Buddy loved good music and demonstrated his enjoyment through his praise. April 8th, 1990 he joined Centennial Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Chat Jefferson.

On Sunday, October 25, 2009, he greeted his lifetime partner again. Melvin will be remembered as "Buddy" a unique personality.
