Mrs. Erma Lee Brown was born on October 6, 1918 in Carlisle, Arkansas to the union of the late John and Lovie (Dixon) Riggins. She was the only child born to that union. She was preceded in death by her mother and father.

Erma accepted Christ into her life at a very young age. She became a member of Lively Stone Church during this time as well. She loved to sing and was always willing to deliver one of her favorite gospel hymns, (Bye and Bye), at any moment's notice.

Due to the untimely death of her mother when Erma was two years old, she was raised by her parental grandmother, Nola, and her three aunts, Della, Ella and Stella, who all preceded her in death.

Erma was the backbone of her family and the spirit that kept life together at all times. Erma was a very devoted Mother and Grandmother, who would do anything for her children and grandchildren. She loved to laugh and had a vibrant outspoken wit. Erma also loved to cook and have a good time, as well as, playing the mandolin and piano, and would often sing with her favorite cousin, Aretha (Walker), who was like a sister to her. Although Erma became blind later in life, she still managed to carry on, living in the faith and spirit of the Lord.

She was united in marriage to the late Emitt Brown of St. Louis, MO. From that union, three daughters were born: The eldest, Arbadella (Tyrone) Swait, Tempie (Darryl) Sikes, who preceded her in death in 2007, and Lovie Meeks, the youngest.

Erma departed from this life on October 21, 2009, leaving to mourn: two daughters: six grandchildren, Howard Lee Harris, Catherine Brown, LaRae and April Alfred and Tempie II and Terrence Sykes; as well as granddaughter, Valerie Alfred, who preceded her in death in 2006. Erma also leaves behind a host of great-grandchildren, cousins, friends and family members.

Erma Brown will be forever adored, loved and missed. She was an inspiration to us all and her family will continue to carry on her courage and strength within our heart and soul.
