Jesse Thornton Jr. was born to Jesse Thornton Sr. and Velma Tartt (Thornton) on March 12th, 1932; his parents later preceded him in death. He was the second of five children and he was born and reared in St. Louis, Missouri. Jesse was baptized and accepted Jesus and his Lord and Savior at an early age.

As a young man, Jesse served in the United States Marine Corp. After leaving the service he pursued a mechanical career that eventually led to the ownership of his auto repair shop: Butch and Jesse's Auto Body. Jesse was a multi-talented man who at one time loved to bowl and also played the saxophone, though mechanics was his first love. Of all his accomplishments, he was most proud of his membership to the Masonic Order.

On Friday, October 23rd, 2009, Jesse departed us at Missouri Baptist Hospital. His passing will leave a host of loved ones to honor his memory: his wife, Eufaula Thornton, his children Sandra Baker, Gary Thornton, Sandra Butler (Earl), Brenett Robertson (Allen Ray), and Paula Thornton.

Jesse is also survived and cherished by his four siblings: Edna Nashville, Elmer Thornton, Henrietta Parram, and Rita Henderson.

He will be remembered by his grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Corey (Coretta), Tiffany (David), Ebony, Christopher, Monyaile, Aaliyah, Alyssa, Anthony, Lovely, Joshua, and Matthew.
Lastly, but not least, Jesse's absence will be felt in the hearts and the minds of the plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, colleagues, associates, and acquaintances that he knew over the course of his life
